Speaking of deeper meanings, I always wished that Jonathan Miller had prefaced his Jew-ish self-deprecation by retorting to Alan Bennett: “I wonder how many of these people have realized that you’re a homosexual… I’d rather be a Jew than be a working class homosexual.” Then they could segue into an Otto Weininger riff, anticipating his second coming as Stephen Fry: das eine Mal als Tragödie, das andere Mal als Farce.
